What I Wish Every Mom Knew Before Their Family Photos
A photographer’s gentle reminder for the mamas behind the magic.
You’ve coordinated the outfits, cleared your calendar, wrangled kids, and probably worried once or twice about how the session will go. If that’s you—you’re not alone. As both a photographer and a mom, I’ve been exactly where you are.
And if I could sit across from you with a cup of coffee and say just one thing, it would be this:
You’re doing so much better than you think.
And you are going to love the photos—even if everything didn’t feel “perfect” in the moment.
Here’s what I truly wish every mom knew before their family photo session.
1. It’s Okay If Your Kids Don’t Sit Still
You do not need perfectly behaved children to have beautiful photos.
Some of the most meaningful images I’ve ever captured happened during the in-between moments—the ones where your toddler runs in circles, or your child buries their face in your shoulder. These are real, unscripted moments of connection. Let them be little.
2. You Belong in the Frame
I know how tempting it is to stay behind the camera. You’re tired. You’re not feeling “photo ready.” But your kids? They see you as their everything. They don’t care if your hair is done or your outfit is perfect. They care that you’re there—holding them, loving them, just being mom.
Your presence is the legacy. Let’s make sure it’s captured.
3. Let Go of the Pinterest Pressure
Coordinated outfits? Helpful. Perfect smiles and poses? Overrated.
The best sessions are the ones where your family just is—laughing, snuggling, exploring, loving. I’ll guide you through gentle prompts and natural poses that feel authentic and relaxed, not stiff or forced. That’s where the magic happens.
4. You’re Doing Better Than You Think
Family photo sessions can feel chaotic, especially with little ones. But I promise you—what feels like a whirlwind to you often looks like love and laughter through my lens.
The way your child reaches for your hand. The look on your face when you see them giggle. These are the things that matter, and they shine through, no matter how wild the session might feel.
5. These Photos Will Matter More Than You Know
Right now, it might feel like you’re just booking a session. But one day, you’ll look back at these images and remember what it felt like to hold them this small. To laugh like that. To be in that exact season of life, fleeting and full.
These images are more than something to share on social media.
They are the story your family will return to again and again.
I work with families across Central Louisiana who want more than just pretty pictures—they want meaningful, emotional, joy-filled moments frozen in time. If that sounds like the experience you’re looking for, I’d love to photograph your story.
