A photographer’s perspective on what really helps brides stay sane
Wedding planning is supposed to be fun, right? But between budgeting, timelines, and the 800 opinions from everyone, it can get overwhelming fast.
As a wedding photographer, I’ve been to countless weddings—from backyard ceremonies to full-blown ballrooms—and I’ve seen what helps couples stay calm (and what doesn’t).
Here are five things I believe can help you enjoy the process and actually look forward to your big day.
1. Hire Vendors You Trust (And Then Trust Them!)
Once you’ve chosen a vendor—whether it’s your planner, florist, or photographer—let go of the reins a little. Trust that they know how to do their job well. You don’t have to manage every detail when you’ve brought on people who care as much about your day as you do.
2. Create a “No-Wedding” Day Every Week
Give yourself one day a week (or more) with zero wedding talk. No planning, no Pinterest. Just a night with your partner to enjoy being engaged. It’ll help you stay grounded and remember what the day is really about.
3. Don’t Build Your Timeline Alone
Your timeline will affect everything—lighting, photos, stress levels, and vendor flow. Work with your photographer and planner to build something that feels smooth, not rushed.
PS: I am happy to help you build a timeline based on lighting at your venue and events throughout your day. You can view an example of a timeline I created for a recent wedding here.
4. Use Tools That Were Actually Made by Pros
There are tons of free checklists floating around online—but many of them are generic or overwhelming.
One of my favorite wedding coordinators created a planning guide specifically for brides who want to feel more organized and less stressed. It’s packed with templates, tips, and real advice!

5. Remember: Imperfect Moments Make the Best Memories
Your dress might get dirty. The timeline might shift. The wrong music may be played. But those little imperfections? They make the day real. And real is beautiful.
Try not to micromanage every second. Take deep breaths. Soak it in. That joy is what you'll remember most—and it's what I'll be capturing in your photos.
